Technics RP-DH1200 DJ headphones: Review

The Technics RP-DH1200 are specially designed headphones for professional musicians or DJs. They carry 24k gold plated stereo plugs which give better contact with terminals to ensure that ultimate sound quality is achieved. As these headphones are designed with the music professional in mind, they come with a carrying pouch to provide better protection.

The closed ear approach of these headphones means that during any DJ set, external sounds are prevented from intruding on what is being produced by the headphones. The headphones weigh around 4.5lbs, making them a little heavy to carry around as a set for your iPod or other MP3 player and are better used for professional music ventures only. The foldable design of the RP-DH1200 headphones gives another added feature that is functional for professional musicians who are often transporting equipment around from events.

Features

The large diameter 50mm driver units of the RP-DH1200 from Technics give a better overall sound quality. They operate with a frequency response of between 5hz and 30khz making them a versatile choice for any professional music equipment. High input power is supported of 3500mW. There is no inclusion of any splash proof features in these headphones, a useful feature that other manufacturers have chosen to help prevent any accidental spillage that the headphones may happen.

Ergonomics

For the professionally minded DJ a number of features of the RP-DH1200 series headphones will make things easier. The swivel mechanism that is available on each side gives free style listening capabilities. Added neck comfort is achieved with a padded band, whilst the locking replaceable cord is a unique feature that has been added to the RP-DH1200. Any cord replacements can be made by a simple removal of the existing cord thanks to the locking mechanism, with a new one slotting straight in.

Summary

These headphones are very specific in their use, designed for DJ equipment or other professional music setups. The carrying pouch and cord locking mechanisms give great functionality and protection; with the 24k Gold plated connectors providing increased sound quality. They are in a slightly higher price range then other similar models, but the quality of ports and features make this justified.
