It features an Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo processor running at 1.4GHz with 3MB of L2 cache, 3GB of PC2-6400 DDR2 ram, and a 160GB hard drive. The R600 comes with a DVD/CD R/W optical drive, 12.1" diagonal measured widescreen LCD display with LED sidelight and 1280x800 resolution, and a Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with up to 1340MB of shared memory. The unit ships with the Windows Vista Business 32/64-bit operating system. In addition, Toshiba is one of a handful of vendors to include Windows XP downgrade media if Vista is not for you.
ValueThe R600 is a bit on the pricey side, but you get a lot for your money. It includes Toshiba's 3-year limited warranty (1-year on the battery), a smaller chassis than last year's model, and a stated battery life up to 8 hours (remember, your mileage may vary considerably, but this is an excellent number for stated battery life). You also get 24x7 toll-free support, a shock absorbing system designed to protect the laptop and your data, and Toshiba's reputation for quality products. FeaturesThe R600 features a useable 85-key keyboard, built-in speaker, microphone and webcam, 10/100/1000 Ethernet, and 802.11a/g/n wireless lan port. There's also Bluetooth wireless capability, an ExpressCard slot, an SD/SDHC card slot, and a VGA output port. Additional connectivity options include 3 USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA port, a microphone port and a headphone port. The unit also features a built-in fingerprint reader for securing access to the notebook. SummaryIf it's in your budget range, and you need a truly portable notebook for everyday business use, the R600 makes an excellent choice. It's built to stand up to the rigors of business use, and well worth the price if you're a true road warrior. It's a bit cramped to replace your desktop, but has all of the features and performance you're likely to need for a mobile business computing platform. Pros
