Viewsonic VX2450wm-LED : Review

If you're looking for a bigger, power-saving 1080p monitor, then you should take a look at the Viewsonic VX2450wm-LED 24-Inch Widescreen LED Monitor. Unlike conventional LCD displays, Viewsonic takes monitor technology to the next level with its premium LED model, which uses less energy and produces better contrast than its predecessors. Although the viewing angles differ and colors are not reproduced as accurately as other monitors, overall the VX2450WM-LED offers users an affordable advantage over the typical LCD display.

Measuring 22.3" x 17.5" x 8.5" and weighing nearly 10 pounds, this model is designed to be used with the default tilt stand or mounted using a VESA-compatible bracket. The 3 year manufacturer's warranty is longer than that of other monitors, and the expected MTBF rating is 30,000 hours (equivalent of 3.5 years). Although the VX2450WM does not include a HDMI port, it does feature integrated speakers that some users will enjoy. Overall, this monitor has minor faults that keeps it from that perfect rating, but nevertheless it is a good value.

Rating:  4.4 out of 5

Value

Unlike other brands, Viewsonic has priced this widescreen LED monitor at an even lower price than some competing standard LCD displays. This model features native 1080p resolution support, as well as an impressive 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 5ms response time. The power savings alone is enough to make this monitor a good value, as in some cases users may experience up to 50% less power consumption than traditional LCDs. Needless to say, the VX2450WM loses one star due to minor, inconsistent viewing angles and colors for some users.

Features

Consumers will be pleased to find that this Viewsonic LED monitor complies with Energy Saver and best pixel policies. In addition, it is certified for Windows 7 and in some cases the included driver disc is not even needed. For input, there is one D-sub (analog RGB) and one DVI-D (digital) port, but no HDMI ports are included. If you plan to utilize this monitor with HDMI-only devices, you can purchase a HDMI-to-DVI converter cable. The integrated speakers are nice, but as with most built-in monitor speakers, the quality of sound is substandard compared to exterior systems.

Summary

All in all, the 24-inch Viewsonic VX2450WM-LED monitor is an above-average display at a below-average price. With competing LED devices ranging above $200, this one is a relief to the consumer on a budget. Presented in a black, sleek platform, the VX2450WM is the perfect addition to your workspace. And because it is compatible with VESA mounts, you can enjoy dual-monitor setups with relatively stable design. Perhaps the only true cons are the lack of a HDMI port, as well as occasional viewing angle and color issues. Needless to say, if your monitor is properly calibrated, your viewing experience should be just as good or better than that in more expensive LED monitors.
